    Hi All,

New poster, but I'm sure that'll change in time as my project progresses!

2 years ago now I had a go at grass seeding my 10m x 8m lawn. It failed, it's overrun with weeds, some odd grasses, thistles etc.

Now, this is mostly my fault - I've neglected it something chronic.

I've got ambitious plans to turf my lawn, sort out some flower beds/grow boxes and deck another area of my garden.

Ultimately I want to return my garden back to soil so I can lay turf, now I could just go about skimming off the top inch or so from the lawn as it is, but moving that amount of soil and grass is going to be back breaking work as well as expensive (I'll no doubt have to fork out for a skip).

I've read various bits of information about grass killing chemicals and wondered if this was an option any of you would recommend?

It's a shame they outlawed the use of Agent Orange after 'nam! :)

Any help or advice gratefully received.

    Regards,

    Rob

    Hya Rob, welcome.
Other than manually digging it up or hitting it with a kill all weedkiller Id go for covering the area with coloured plastic sheeting, this will make the area much easier to work with as it will become softer and will help to get the soil working as all the creachers such as worms etc. will love the environment.
    Takes a few weeks though.

    Thanks, Karl.

It's a good point you make, and for £22 I could cover my entire garden with a cheapo tarp from B&Q. (Might finally help me to teach the dog to stop crapping on there too!

    I'll give it a go.

    Thanks for the reply.

    Rob
