Now is the time to kill moss and algae on the patio, decking, roofs etc. I have started an information site at www.mosskillers.co.uk and would be really interested to hear other member's views and experiences and may even add them if it's really good information for my visitors. Please let me know!

it's not meant as an advert at all - I am interested in how people solve this problem in their own ecological ways

I scrape it off! (unless it's really rough, then I use brushes of various sizes, from rough outdoors brushes to nail brushes!

mosskillers - spring for me, definitely - but, yes, (apart form the roof bit, which I've never attempted - the birds tend to chuck bits down!) - it does generally remove the probelm, if you're thorough enough - hard to do if there's a vast area to deal with though. I just try to be organic, and I'm not aware of a better organic way (I don't like flame-throwers!!) :D

mosskillers - just had my 52 year old bungalow roof tiles and gutters cleaned. Lovely job, no chemicals, just a pressure washer!
No more blocked gutters, no more mess all over the driveway! Wonderful. They also sprayed it all with an inhibitor/sealant for tiles.
Probably not what you want to hear though! :D :D

I have heard (not sure how true it is), a good brushing on of 50/50 water and bleach solution kills moss and algae .

The situation for me is that we have some solutions on our website (even for the roof) but I would like to enhance the range with some organic solutions. It would also be good to add services like the one mentioned to do the work. Also, some advice and tips. I thought that the bleach 'solution' can corrode the surface and not remove the roots, but if that's not your experience, then perhaps I could try that out and then add that as a solution - mind you that's not very organic is it?!

When I had to deal with it at my parents' home in the West of Scotland(where moss grows rather well on the paths in particular, and is very slippery) we used to sprinkle sand on and then brush vigorously! The sand presumably was enough of an abrasive that it helped- like rubbing sandpaper over it, without having to get down on your hands and knees! [IMG]

Am also interested to find a solution because I have a flat roofed garage which will be covered in moss when I venture up there in a few weeks time. I confes that I shall use a proprietary moss killer as brushing it off only leads me to the next problem of replacing the gravel which is brushed off at the same time.
