killing off turf!

    Hi all from a newcomer...l have recently moved into a newly developed house with a lawn that l want to remove and plant with shrubs, its too large to cut the turf out...or l'm tooo much of a wuss!,how can l killl it off so as it will be useable to dig in to the soil?..the turf was laid approx 6 months ago l should think

    If you cover it with old carpet, black polythene or anything else that excludes the light. The grass will first turn yellow then die.

    You will still have to dig over the soil before you plant in it though as the soil will be compacted with the turf and need ariating.

    Thanks for that...l was going to cover it with black binliners/cardboard but wasn't sure if l would need to apply glyphosate to ensure it dies completely,if l did this how soon could it be replanted?

    If you use a product called ROUNDUP then you can replant as soon as the grass is dead.
    but it will need rotavating, etc.. as the others have said
