I have been reading some of the posts regarding potatoes and dead heading them

do you wait till the flowers have opened then dead head them or deadhead before they flower also if dead heading how long do you leave them before you can dig them up :gnthb::gnthb:

I've never heard of removing the flowers on potatoes before, whats the benefit?

I have read it can increase yield by 1 tonne per acre .... which is probably one tuber per plant :)

I suppose it makes sense, remove the flowers so that the plant puts all its energy into the tubers. But I quite like potato flowers, they add a bit of interest to the veg plot so I'm leaving mine :thumb:

i read that forum to but i only grow first earlies for the flavour just 4 rows of 10 so it's not worth it for me,
Plus i have an old boy with a small holding just down the road from me and his king eddies are so cheap it's not worth cluttering my plot with them , i'de rather use the extra space for sorouting broccoli hope thishelps

I never remove the flowers Cooky - and niether do the potato farmers round here.

I leave my potatoes until I see the top growth starting to die down then I know they're ready.

Hope you get a lovely crop.
