It does look good Gemini, just googled it and it is only £21, seems quite cheap, I was expecting it to be more.

There is another one called the Dynmo Tape machine which did the same job only using a wheel of letter on which you selected the letter by turning the wheel and pressing a trigger to form the word. That has been going years and that was a lot cheaper!!

if you interested in one of these I'd wait until lidl get their office products offers on again as the Dymo ones which Armandii mentions usually sell for £6.99

here's a link to the spare tapes which they sell with a photo of the lablel maker:

Why not buy a non-green coloured label maker from brother and put one of the laminated tapes in it?
        I got a £15 from Here

Yes, provided the tapes are interchangeable that would be fine. Must be something different apart from the colour though!

Why? I suggest that its a marketing ploy, gardeners expect things to be green.

Also if you look at the any p-touch label maker they all accept the 3 sizes of tape, none say they do not accept the "special" laminating tape

Just to add my twopenn'th. I looked at label making machines but at £26 a pop, plus £6.40, (or £12.60 for the wider) tape, decided against it - especially since, if I run out of tape, I want to be able to pop into a shop and buy tape, not have to log-on and wait for Amazon et.al to deliver it.

The Brother is a great 'fun' gadget if you've loads and loads of labels to make, but I stick to my basic, bottom-of-the-range, cheapo, Dymo machine (about £5 in Smiths and about £2.50 for the tape). I 'print' off the labels, stick them onto plant labels then secure them by piercing with a hot needle and threading a piece of fine wire through - rainproof, rot-proof and washable even if the 'colour' of the tape fades, the embossing is still legible.

Mrs shiney has one of those but hasn't used it yet - she's got to work out how to :heehee:. One of her friends has one and swears by it.

I think it's only worthwhile if you have enough plants to label. Mrs shiney has propagated about 1,500 plants for next year - so far :rolleyespink:. She will have a word with her friend about how to use it but it won't be for some time.
