    hello again,
having looked closer, don't think the top one is
vriesia splendens, as the leaves don't appear stripy on your photo, but i think it is from the vriesea family. check out, http://fcbs.org/pictures/Vriesea.htm

there are 563 different types to look at, your must be 1 of them! enjoy!!!

I reckon Vriesia splendens - though the leaves are normally stripy. But as there are so many types I'm sure they must have one with planin green .

The top one Pal is a more recent Vriesea cultivar similar to Splendens which has a single flower spike, yours is multi-headed and as Fran says there are new Splendens cultivars as well which makes it more confusing.
Neither plant wants to be wet at the roots as they are epyphites, the vriesea needs water in the vase as this is where rain water would collect naturally and the (i'm I telling you something you know already?)

    Oops wrong keys.... continuing....
Tillandsia prefers misting. Both plants will die off after flowering and will be replaced by offshoots.

It won't be straight away Pal, they last quite a long time but when the time comes to separate the young ones you have a nice warm greenhouse to grow them on in as they will take about 2/3 years to mature and flower. The Tillandsias are not as easy to look after as the Vrieseas as they are prone to rotting when too wet. After a few years I bet you will be sending them all over GC. :D
