I planted this rose last year and this year it has grown into a 7ft high monster!!!! :yikes: had some beautiful blooms on it but it is just huge. Well apparently this rose can be grown either as a bush or as a climber, so if I give it a hard prune this year will it then stay a bit smaller?

Sorry Val, I don't think hard pruning will make any difference, it will still replace the growth through the new season next year.

I don't think growing it in a pot and restricting it's roots would make any difference either. It's obviously a climber and that's what it wants to be. Even if you were to keep it pruned throughout the season it wouldn't do any good as you wouldn't have any flowers. Sadly, as you say Val, it will have to go!

Sounds like my sort of rose! Probably not what you wanted to hear, but I'm looking for a good "doer" climbing rose, and this one had not yet entered my short-list....

I've been looking everywhere for Lady of Shalott. Can anyone recommend where i can purchase a bare root rose one? Or Val if you are getting rid of it, could I take it off your hands?
