This is a really lovely garden and well worth a visit. It's on the A592 from Windermere to Ullswater, just north of Windermere when you are approaching Troutbeck. It is on the right hand side of the road a Holehird in the grounds of a Cheshire home.

It has a beautiful walled garden, outside gardens, trial beds, some national collections and wonderful views. There is no charge to go in but there is a donation box.

All the work is done by volunteers.

I love this garden too. I visited it a couple of years ago while I was staying up in the Yorkshire Dales. I went in early April and the garden was full of colour even then. I'm looking forward to a return trip next month!

Those photos were taken in early September so you should find loads of colour next month.

Thanks Shiney - another one added to my list. I wonder if a life time is long enough :D Looks like its a good year for hydrangas, they were doing well on the cornish coastal gardens too.

    Hi Fran

If you like walking in the Lake District as well then the gardens are good to be timed in with an easier walk. You can do the gardens in an hour if you want but two to three hours if you like browsing.

If you are not an extra keen walker but would like to do some lovely walks that are not too strenuous I have had a book published that is called 'Favourite Lakeland Walks'. These are also suitable for keen walkers that want an easy day. They fit well with a visit to the gardens. End of advertisement.

    It is really lovely.

We visited the Welsh Botanic gardens a few years ago and really enjoyed them.
