Peter is right Sal - Charlie Pidham is something of a godlike figure when it comes to things like this!

I have grown this from seed. Germination is notoriously erratic (the seed must be fresh and never have been allowed to dry out), but needs no special care or treatment to germinate.
I lost two at first leaf stage (one due to root disturbance and the other to spider mite), and the last one later on.

From cuttings they take about three years to bloom I think.

I would be interested in knowing how you guys get on. This has been hovering on the edge of my wanted list for some time. The problem is that there is a lot of other plants all hovering there as well.

Liliana - I have no idea. But from what LongK says it seems that the key is fresh seed. I haven't yet read the full info on Charlie Pridhams site - but it seems that there is all the info you need - and possibly a lot more. Charlie is a professional nurseryman who grows many plants like this, and I would place a lot of weight on what he says.

Did anyone read that it need 4/5 years before flowering from seeds.

Does anyone remember my thread about tropical bedford? the garden center in Bedford? well they had a red and a pink for sale at £8 (reduced from £25) , all coming from Holland , the time I went back , they where all gone..

I don`t know if I love the Dutch or hate them ? last year I was about to order a banana montbeliardi at £30 , then bought 2 for £5 , then the nepenthes 2 at £5 and many other plants payed just a fraction of other garden centers price.
Should I invest or wait? I don`t have any gurantee that next year will manage to get again the lapagera at that price.

With something like that Sal I would invest in the best - there is a huge range at the link that PeterS put up, and Mr. Pidham is seriously respected. Only trouble is that he doesn't send Lapageria by mail order. The plant fair listings are here. Chenies is probably closest to you.

Arrange to collect it from the rare plant fair at Chenies. Then you can take loads of money with you and buy some other gems too! Seriously worth the effort!
