Hi to all the huge plant lovers [mainly men I notice :D ]
Last year I bought a tree fern which is doing OK so I thought I would like another large exotic palm or fern. I would like it to be at least nearly hardy, and seem to remember someone had a beautiful one with fan shaped leaves but can't find the item. I think it was in an allotment. Also I have seen a palm around here which flowers profusely, standard palm shape.
    Any good recommendations , please?
I am contemplating lying under one with a glass of something alcoholic......... and no gardening tools within reach!

The hardy palm is the Chusan palm.

I think it might have been my allotment Liz, I have got the odd washingtonia growing around the place. They aren't reliably hardy though.
As Palustris says, the hardiest true palm is The chusan palm, Trachycarpus Fortunei, there are a few other trachys. that are newer introductions to this country.
I've got Fortunei and wagnerianus, But they dont grow very fast, and unless you buy a big one (expensive), you'll have to get pretty close to the ground to lay under it for a few years :D
