I noticed this plant, along with an identical brother, growing in my garden a while ago but they weren't in the way so I left them be. Even weeds get a chance in my garden as long as they're not next to something I planted.
Now they're a little bigger and I noticed they look very similar to the sunflowers I planted, except much larger, and yet I never planted seeds there so I can only assume a bird dropped one of the sunflower seeds I regularly put out for them and it grew, if that is what they are.

    Can anyone confirm?

I've noticed that the biggest and best sunflowers usually grow from bird seed.
And the self sown ones usually turn out to be the best.:WINK1:

Yes , it looks a lot better than the moth eaten , wind blown ones I am growing ! As Pete said I think I'll just collect some of the self sown ones around the bird table , they do look a picture of health. :D

When I used to work at a fishery in Cheshire we always fed the birds and you should have seen the sunflowers that grew from dropped food in the neighbouring fields belonging to the Forestry Commission; they were amazing. They only grew to about 4 or 5ft but they were very sturdy and multi stemmed and had dozens of flowers on one plant, usually 4-6 large ones and lots of smaller ones.

The Forestry Commission were so impressed by the display they didn't mind them and left them happily growing until they died off.

We nearly always fed black sunflower seed, rarely striped ones.

Tell me about it, these are 3 times the size of the ones that I actually planted and routinely water.

Thanks to everyone who confirmed this for me.
