im looking for ideas on how to get rid of a large area of weeds at the back of my garden. i did look into one of those weed burners but i think the area is too big (its 5x1m) plus is against a wooden fence which i dont want to burn.

is a pump n go the only option?

only thing is on the other side of this fence i grow herbs and butter nuts (im going to harvest these in a few weeks anyway) and im worried the amount of round up ill need will get thru the cracks in the fence and contaminate my crops.

im not really sure what my options are. the other half is suggesting i just go mad with a machete but dont think thats a long term solution. lol

    any thoughts????

Probably a bit late for roundup. It only works when plants are actively growing & most stuff will be dying back now.

they will most probably die down in a few weeks as winter is near, but if they bother you now, mow them short with an old mower if you don't want to use weedkiller

or dig them out with as much roots as possible

I would dig them out. You don't need to do it all at once - I like to break big jobs down into smaller ones so they aren't as daunting.

You could do 1 sq m at a time. Once you see how good the first bit looks, it will give you the incentive to do a bit more until it's done.

If they are quite high you could cut them with a strimmer beforehand so you can better see what you are doing.
