I have recently noticed a maggot type larvea near to the foundations of the house. These creatures are also in some areas of my garden. Has anyone any ideas what they are and how to get rid of them?

Hi BHC Welcolm to Gardeners Corner..........
It would be good if you could post a picture of the offenders and give us size and colour or if they were under or close to a particular plant..

Sorry don't have digital camera at the moment, we have measured them and they are aprrox 35mm long and are clear enough to see inside them, they are not near any plants but are under bricks, brushes, appear to be coming out of holes and are also in the soil.feels like they are taking over ah ah

35mm is more like a caterpillar length, nearly is as big as roders' creature- never heard of anything like it.

Got me stumped too - its the "clear" description that has me puzzled. Something has obviously laid eggs which are hatching, but what they are???

The only thing that I can suggest is seeing what they are feeding on (larva always feed :D ) - put their feed and a couple of them in a glass jar, covered with cling film - holed for air, and see what they turn into.

Another thought - contact your local university and see if they can help identify what they are

    Hope someone else can help

35mm - that's as wide as a film! Transparency sounds like some sort of chrysalis. Found in the soil suggests leather jackets. Need a piccy, please!
