I too will tempt fate. The local blast furnace starts up again in december after a couple of years of being mothballed. No problems expected here.

Last winter, after a couple of years of the local heater (blast furnace) being switched off, we got down to -10 degrees celsius once. We had -19C on the A19 on the way to work (35 miles into the Durham countryside at the time). I still made it through, although it was the first time in my life I've ever seen an actual snow drift on a major road before.

Now I've changed jobs, if I can't get the car out, which is unlikely, I could walk to work in no more than a couple of hours if need be.

We've been fortunate for the last few years to have been travelling in exotic places during the bad weather over here but we're not going this year - Oscar will be pleased :D.

Unfortunately, we can't use salt on our driveway because we then wouldn't be able to get it off again and it would eventually end up in the flower beds - and stain the tarmac.

We'll just have to hibernate and wait for food parcels. If they manage to get our road clear I can always hitch a lift to the village :heehee:

Actually, Sheal, I have the Cave already furnished, lardered, heated, with plenty of straw to snuggle down in. Just bring a few good books in case you wake up every now and then:heehee::heehee:

Just heard on the News that the hard Winters have been due to a cycle of lower Sun activity and radiation which it is still in, so we could be having another bad Winter. Well, that cheered me up no end:what::rolleyespink::mad:
