I've never done much lathe work.

Its one of those things that always looks impressive.

But its kinda "look what I can do stuff", great for the exhibitionist.

I really should get a pipe and beard and all the other paraphernalia that goes along with it:)

Hya Pete Im a joiner by trade so making things is a passion of mine.
Its not a case of being an exhibitionist or bragging about what you can do but more a case of being proud of making something with your own hands that you can use.

I find your comment a bit odd to be honest, so the bloke on here who carved the fairy seat and all the other bits n pieces in his garden is an exhibitionist or bragging about what he can do???

I think not, if you have a talent or an idea and think you can have a good crack at it then go for it, there's nothing wrong with being creative.:skp:

Karl, sorry mate I didn't mean it like that.

I'm a joiner, and have been for 40yrs, so I was not in anyway running anybody down.
I dont think I mentioned anybody carving a fairy seat etc.

I guess its just a trade joke really about all those exhibitionist turners that seem to pop out the wood work at trade fairs etc.
Bet your've seen the Axminster catalogue with all those books for sale at the back, how anyone can write books on using a router is beyond me, but some of them have written volumes on the subject, likewise lathes.
Just strikes me as a little bit quaint, sort of people that buy a lie Nielsen plane and think it will improve their work.:D

    Only joking.
