As I had to tame a couple of lavatera bushes at the back of my garden, I decided that it was a good opportunity to take some cuttings, so I cut off fresh green growth (not the woody stuff), dipped it into hormone rooting powder and then shoved it into MPC which has been wetted and then I have put the pots into a shady area.

Have I done it right, or should I have done (or do) something differently?

Sounds okay to me FC. It's best with most cuttings to strip the lower leaves and leave the top four or six on depending on size, it's less work for the plant while creating root growth. You could also try starting some off in water, they will take a good few weeks to root though. :)

I forgot to add that I stripped the bottom leaves before shoving them into the MPC. I'll see if these ones go, and if not I will try some in water. Thanks :)

I took 20 at the end of summer last yr(brendon springs) i over wintered them in gh with no effort and now they are finally fluffing out a bit.
I just popped them in compost with bottom leaves removed like you have FC :) x

Sounds about right to me, they should be 4 to 6" long. Lavatera are good confidence builders, they root quite easily. You could try salvia and sambucus too.
