I've grown a few of these indoors which are hardening off but I'd now like a few more. It looks like I can sow them direct where I want them to flower but is it too late to do this? Will they even flower? As a beginner, I'm wondering if seeds are sown too late will I just end up with some foliage before the temps start to drop again as the months tick on?

Shall I just sow them and hope for the best? :) :dunno:

I tried sowing lavatera novella rose, which I assume to be similar to the trimestris, direct last year, and got nothing at all - although last year's weather was probably at least partly responsible for that?

I have sown them indoors this year, and have them hardening off at the moment (hardening off the hard way too really)

Thanks for that FC. I might just try them and see what happens. Nothing ventured, nothing gained as they say!

I haven't sown direct before apart from some California Poppies a few weeks ago. A few of these have started to germinate now so maybe I'll get lucky with the Lavatera.

If my ones this year were anything to go by, they take their sweet time germinating (about 14 days) and then seem to pootle along slowly for a while before going absolutely Radio-Rental.

I am looking forward to seeing them in flower though - I love mallows

I googled lavatera novella rose and they look very similar to the trimestris. The one I'm growing is called "Beauty Mix". Can you remember from last year FC whether the bees liked them?

I've grown 'Novella' for the last three years, they put on a stunning display in the garden. They are slow to get away and are better grown inside to start with. Mine have hardened off now ready for planting but there's still not much top growth as yet.

None of mine germinated Fern - that was part of the reason that I decided to sow them indoors this year.

They look gorgeous Sheal :blue thumb:

Thanks FC .....I don't know why I thought you'd sown some direct and some indoors last year! I really must pay attention. I think it's my age! :snork:

They really do look beautiful Sheal.
