I just got back home after 2 weeks away, and our fairly neat lavender is now a monster! What should I do to it... I don't really want it growing onto my path or lawn too much? Can I hack it back to size with impunity or do I need to be careful with it?

    Thanks!

    Hello and welcome:)

I can't see anything wrong with that. Its doing what lavender does. Its gets ready to flower. You can trim it if you like and it wont hurt (as long as you don't go right back to bare wood), but you'll lose all the flowers off it and lavender isn't really meant to be kept neat. What you see there is a good healthy lavender plant.

Make sure you cut all the straggly flowers off after flowering, and neatly trim the bush, but as C1 says don't cut back into old wood as it won't regenerate.

When it starts to get too large & unwieldy take a cutting and replace the mother plant with that (you need to root the cutting a year or two before to give the young plant time to bulk-up some size as a replacement :) )
