This is probably old news to many, but new to me:)

Just over a week ago, I sowed seed for a new patch of lawn. Its not the first time I've grown a lawn from seed, so I didn't expect to see much happening for at least another week, maybe two.

I found in my collection a plastic propagator lid. I placed this over a random patch of the newly sown lawn. I've just checked it, just over a week since sowing. Outside the lid, nothing much yet, as expected. Under the lid, loads of new grass.

I have a big sheet of clear polythene. I'm thinking of using that to cover the rest of the area to see if I can speed it along a bit.

      Nice one Dave.

We watched some guys in Turkey raking a patch of ground & seeding and watering it.

No kidding, 3 days later there was a full lawn there:thud:

I think it may "cook" if you got a day of unbroken sun at this time of the year ... but it would keep it moist etc. in meantime. Perhaps cover for 1 day less than propagator took, and then uncover ?

I am busy landscaping a pub .... front lawn had large patches of moss, so I aerated, and scarified .... added weedkiller for the moss an weeds and waited 2 1/2 weeks before I mowed again (we had good rains)

weeds died, moss blackened and then raked the dead moss, and overseeded the bare patches a week and 3 days ago

worked there yesterday, mowed the lawn and the seed has already geminated and is over 1 inch tall in just over a week (the blades are still thin though)

so, don't cover the seed .... be patient ....
