Hi all, i hope someone here can help me identify a problem with my lawn.

See the pictures below, the grass has been slowly yellowing and growth on affected areas is very slow and the yellowing is spreading.

The lawn is 4 years old, at the beginning of the season i took quite a bit of thatch out and also fed the lawn, i have a feeling i may of slightly over done the feeding, not sure if this could be causing the problem?

    Any help appreciated:)

    Hi hoops

    Welcome to the forum.

I don't think you've got anything to worry about. If the yellowing hasn't happened suddenly and it's well distributed, your lawn is just a bit "tired". In other words,it's probably just the grasses that grew on strongly in spring and early summer dying back a bit now.

Provided your soil is still relatively moist, I'd give the grass a quick, light rake over and then a weak feed, watered in well. My lawn is looking much the same as yours and that's what I'm going to do.

    Hi hoops

Treating the lawn is one of the most tedious jobs in my book and so I favour a granular feed, which gets it done quickly, although many on this forum prefer liquid feeds.

I use Evergreen Complete which is a weed 'n' feed but they also make straight feeds and an autumn feed ( I think). For a weak feed, I just spread it at about half the normal density recommended on the packet.

I've suggested a weak feed because from late summer into early autumn, the risk of drought is higher (no, really!) and this will avoid scorching. Also, I get fed up with mowing the grass as summer wears on and I don't particularly want to stimulate it!
