Hi recently I noticed that on my lawn long ridges has appeared. It's only in certain spots and the ridges are about 7 feet long and about 2-3 inches high. No one seems to know what they are. can anyone tell me what the problem is, or how I can fix this. Thanks for help in advance.

Is the ground underneath solid? or will these ridges easily stamp down?

I rekon its probably a mole.

Thanks for the help. we've been here 20 yrs and this is the first time this has happened. They are about 7ft long in places, shorter in others, all running in stright lines, and they are hard if you stand on them. I'm in County Donegal in Ireland, nobody around here has a problem like this, or a problem with moles.

I put a picture of the lawn with the ridges into my album. But I don't know how to get it into the thread. Maybe if you saw the problem you would know what it was. Can you give me help on this. Thanks

    Nice rock!

It looks like a corrugated lawn, but I just made that (and the spelling!) up.

I would suggest taking up a bid of lawn and digging down to see what has happened.

Sorry I don't have an answer to your question though ... looks like it has been driven over with those rough tyres you get on farm tractors :(

I rekon it must be some sort of soil heave, are there trees nearby or have any been taken down?

I would as sudgested lifting an area of the affected turf and diging a trial hole.

They are too regular to be caused by natural events.

Whats been on the lawn in recent months or is this a wind-up?

No Has bean counter this is not a wind up, I would not waste any one's time who is trying to help other people with gardening problems. I've been advice to get the soil tested, and that's what I plan to do.

It really looks as if something mechanical has been on your lawn or something has been laid on it for a period of time

Honestly nothing has been on the lawn, or lying on it for a long time. I've been trying to sort this problem for a while, and the only thing left is to dig a trial hole and get the soil tested. But I appreciated eveyone's help. Thanks

The ridges are caused by mowing the lawn in the same direction each time you mow. I read this somewhere recently but I'm afraid I can't find out where at the moment. I also don't know how to rectify it but I'm sure someone on this great site can help.

    Hope this helps.

    Nicksun.
