Hi people. We've just moved into a new house, and for the first time, we've actually got an area we can call a garden. My first problem is that the lawn at the rear of the house falls away about 1 ft from one side to the other. I would like to level this out. Would it be possible by simply laying soil on top of the existing turf and relaying/reseeding, or do I need to remove the original turf and start again?

    Your advice much appreciated.

I built a retaining wall, lifted the turf, backfilled, compacted and relaid turf. I would wait for cooler weather though.
