I have just moved into a new house, and have an a carpet of weed rather than grass in a particular part of the garden. The area is mostly sheltered from direst sun, is under a tree, and is dry. I have no desire to dig up and replace, and would rather tackle this by the most appropriate weedkiller for this particular infestation.

Personally I think it looks nice - the grass probably didn't fair particularly well in the dry shade so this took over. That said I am a perfectionist in my own garden so can understand you wanting to tackle it if the lawn isn't uniform - sorry no tips though! ....except call Greenthumb I am sure they could sort it out (see my previous post)

    "spray with verdone extra"

Pro.G I don't reckon there is enough residual grass there to "recover" when the weeds are gone ... what do you think?

    Indeed ...

" any advise will be gratefully received"

If it ALL looks like the photo then my advice is: "dig it up and re-sow it" :(

I tend to agree with Kristen, if you want a perfect lawn then you will have to resow, and I would do it all. My hubby now has patches of beautiful fluffy grass showing up the older tougher stuff and I think that will have to be his project for next yr.

I don`t do green carpets but have to begrudgingly admit when I am out in my bare feet I prefer to stand on the nice stuff.

I like green carpets. I reckon that if the lawn is nice, and stripey, folk won't notice if the flower beds haven't been weeded recently :thumb:

The weed pictured has a large surface leaf area and will therfore be suceptable to chemical spraying.

Best to overseed once youve eradicated it

That's a good plan ... easier than ripping the whole lot up!

Pro.G I thought it looked like Clover, which I don't find easy to kill - well not in one-strike, anyway. Or do you think its some other weed?

Its a thought. And I can appreciate the allure, just not for me is all. No harm in that is there?

I like to show off at times too so thats a club we both belong to LOL.

Unfortunately my garden is a source of distress at the moment, nothing really to show off about-my cherry tree comes out at the weekend and I have to psyche myself to do it. Doesn`t help that my "woodland edge" looks more like a "car park edge" at the moment and losing another tree will just make it worse. But ho hum thats the way of things at times.

:)Plus I just remembered-I have started a blog thanks to you I took a deep breath told myself I was being silly for being overly reticent and went for it. Set it all up ready to post to it and then..............couldn`t think of a solitary interesting thing to say. Going to put some photos on it tonight if I don`t have a breakdown before I finish. I work with computers all day but just like doing what I know if you know what I mean. I`m unpacking the box! Stretching the envelope for you Steve-(oh sorry slipped into tv mode there then I do apologise):)

"couldn`t think of a solitary interesting thing to say"

Hehehe ... bit early in the process for Writers Block!

You can create retrospective entries (just edit the Date on the blog article).

So how about digging out some photos, use the date on the photo for some "how my garden evolved" type stuff?
