I have read with interest the issues that bluey has had with his lawn. I too am disappointed with the results of using granulated feed (Evergreen). The grass looks fantastic for the first three weeks but then starts to fade. They recommend an additional feed 8 weeks later which I do but again after a few weeks it looks patchy and now it's spring I see more yellow/dead grass than anything else. I do scarify in spring before I feed. Is there any other type of feed on the market that gives more stable and longer lasting results or what do I need to do get the grass looking greener with stronger, thicker blades

From experience I have found that unless your lawn is pretty much perfect already, Evergreen can do more harm than good. I had a customer insist on it and it ruined the lawn becasue it was made up of 25/75 weed to lawn. When I had a lawn (in additions to normal lawn care) I used to feed the lawn as a whole with a general liquid fertilizer(very dilute feed). Any weeds that appeared were removed by hand or kept at bay by regular mowing. Perfect lawns are very hard to achieve and certianly any bigger than mine would be a nightmare. [IMG]

Hello SJ and welcome to GC.

I don't have a lawn, so I'm a good one speaking here, but I understand coffee grounds are an excellent fertilizer. I use them for my outdoor plants and also for dyeing lace and cotton.

There any many uses for used coffee grounds, especially around the garden. We have a Krups machine so always have them available but if you don't I believe any coffee shop will supply you with them free of charge, Starbucks and O'Malley's to name a couple.

Here is one link, which I will also put up in Tips ...

Good luck with your lawn and enjoy the forum.

I also do not use granulated weed and feed .

Not only is it easy to overaply and scortch it is also expensive and as a trade user bulky to transport.

For weeds I treat with spearhead ( the comercial equivelant of verdone)

For green up regular sparys of ferrous sulphate and the ocasional complete liquid feed or seaweed solution.
