    i am having my garden re turfed and the gardener who is doing the job for me told me that he will put the new turf on top of the old. some how this does not seem right to me?
    your reply would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Carleton, you are right in being concerned about this. Laying turf on top of old grass is a recipe for disaster! to cut a long story short, the old lawn should be removed, the earth raked &maybe some good quality topsoil added, levelled then the new turf laid.
