    Hi

I have inherited a "lawn" that is full of weeds, moss, and very uneven.

I intend to do the following, so can any lawn experts please advise if this is the correct way?

    1. Use a power digger to dig over the existing lawn
    2. Rake and roll the garden
    3. Lay down weed control fabric everywhere
    4. Cover in top soil, and level out
    5. Roll the garden again
    6. Leave to settle for a week or so
    7. Roll the garden again
    8. Lightly rake the garden
    9. Sow grass seed
    10. Water

Not sure if I need to roll after digging. Also I'm not sure if I should hire a power digger or a cultivator. The power digger costs about £35 to hire, and the cultivator £100.

buy a lawn book at under £10, it will save you a fortune in time and money.

Lawn preparation is best done in the autumn and its too late in the year to sow a lawn from seed, unless you are on unmetered water and are prepared to flout the regulations..

Best bet is to apply lawn weed, feed and moss control and follow the instructions. See how it goes
