Anyone own one of these? If so, you got any tips for someone who's never been near them before and now needs one for workshops and lectures, etc.?

Been browsing around a bit and found that replacement bulbs cost around £350-450 each! Ouch!! Think I'd be better off hiring one for the once or twice a year I'd need one - what do you think, PCM?

Another possible option is to find a refurbished crt video projector.
They don`t use lamps, but are quite a bit larger than an LCD and weigh more.
The picture quality vs LCD is much better for video (which may not be a factor for your planned use)
Setting the convergence can be a pain but most modern projectors automatic systems and keystone adjustments via the remote.

Something to look into anyway ;)

    Cathode Ray Tube ;)

They use 3 "guns" attached to ~5" diameter lenses which generate seperate red, green and blue pictures, which are superimposed on top of each other on the screen much like a tv...only a lot,lot bigger (4m-6m across in a darkened room)

You`ll find them in most pubs these days.
I bought a "lumiscan 4000" (toshiba) many years ago (a big 2.5ft x 2ft white fibreglass job that weighed about 50lbs) when they were little known and could make Ã?£250 for a few hours sitting watching some corporate presentation (pedigree petfoods mostly) on an 8`x 6` screen [IMG]

They are much smaller and lighter these days and the refurbished ones are reasonably priced.

Hire one - they are more trouble than they are worth to buy - soon out of date etc. If you hire you always get the latest technology and the whole process is more or less 'plug and play'
