Around us a school & church have had it pinched, I hadn't heard of it being nicked from houses though. I particulary despise those b*****s who took the war memorial plaques, I'm glad they have been caught, bring back the stocks!

This kind of stealing is going on over here too.

Copper is very high on the list, but things like man-hole covers, railway ties and tracks, etc, are also stolen. There was even an article recently that reported a priest in Hungary wanted to ring the church bell - only to discover that it had been stolen, and it weighed 300 kilos!!!

How on earth does anyone manage to steal such things and nobody notices it???

Its ironic that 12 months ago i bought some cheap sleapers complete with ties and left the ties at the yard I bought them from in order to save weight.... probably close to a half ton of steel!!!!

Around here its lead and frequently also catalitic converters for platignum.

Most of the culprits would apear to be of the pikey fraternity, had a close call this week when i came home for lunch and caught a van hanging around and eying up my trailer and store shed. Still ive set alarm mines and got my spare pick handle ready under the bed should I hear them trying to break in during the night.
