Around this time of year I've noticed our plum trees new shoots die back. Everything else is fine. Then this week I noticed other trees are doing this too on Clapham Common - horse chesnut and oak.

Is this a normal thing I've just never noticed happen before?

    Sounds a bit odd.
Could it be weather damage to tender new growth?
Sometimes happens with spring gales or hail.
