One of the ivy plants in my garden has appears to have graudally developed leaf spot which is now affected around 80% of the leaves. The leaves appears eaten, acquire holes and slowly wilt and die, though there is enough foliage to still give adequate cover to the trelis the ivy covers. I have removed all the infected leaves but I'm thinking that the entire plant is now infected.

Should I remove the plant entirely and start afresh (if so, does the soil need treating) or will removing all infected leaves treat the plant - it would be a shame to lose it entirely but I'm not concerned about the risk of infecting other plants around.

    Any advice gratefully received.

Just "spotted" your post - sorry for the pun...

Ivy is generally pretty tough but can suffer from leaf spot. You don't say how big it is but with 80% damage, I'd dig it out and get rid of it. Trouble is, even if you replace the soil, the infection might still be lurking on the trellis so it could recurr if you replant with another ivy. I'd try something else - how about a Russian vine (if you can keep up with it...)?
