Leatherjacket Cure ?

    My friend suspects he has leatherjackets in his lawn . Is their a failsafe cure anyone know for this ?

    It's a tad early for them to be chewing away but your friend needs to lift some turf to see if any are seen round patches of dead or damaged turf.
    Perhaps a photo will help but if the lawns got patches of greyed out grass it maybe a turf related disease as the damp and warm weather has once again played its role in Red Thread which is around my area.

      Tell your friend to encourage Starlings into their garden by putting out wild bird seed and they will have a field day rootling round on the lawn with their beaks and will soon eat all the larva for free.:biggrin:

        I heard somewhere that putting a tarp on the lawn brings them to the surface so you can gather them up and flog em to passing anglers :)

          Rotorvate the lawn, then let Chickens free range over Winter. That sorts them out.

          Alternatively, if they want to continue with their grass rather than converting to vegetable production, using a suitable pesticide as a soil drench will sort them out.

              Badgers and foxes will happily dig them out. On a more serious note there is a nematode available that can be watered on.
