leeks

    i have a heavy, not very well drained soil. Is it possible to grow leeks in this type of soil successfully?

    Have you thought of creating a raised bed and incorporating lots of organic matter?

    I grew leeks sucessfully last year on London clay using the same format.

    I have heavy soil and leeks do really well without any special treatment.

    i may try them next year

    i have no room for special raised beds.

    my mum wont let me make the patch any bigger!!

    im a lone gardener in our house, except when my gran is through!
    lol

    Sorry to butt in, but how long do leek seeds take to germinate? Do they need a minimum temperature. I not grown them before. I sowed the seed in pots about two weeks ago, the pots are in a cold frame.How long do I wait?

    Mine took about a week to come through but they are in a green house (unheated)

    Terrier, bring the pot into the house and put it on a warm windowsill, they should then be through in a week or so.
