My Lemon Drop Chillies really aren't 'doing' for some reason. In the early stages, they threw on growth really rapidly, and became almost leggy (I wondered if they had spurted due to being fed chicken manure), thereafter they slowed and produced a few fruits and I thought they had settled.

The fruit produced hasn't ripened, a few have simply dropped off, and there is no sign of more blooms coming; to make matters worse, it would appear that something has been eating them as the leaves are all peppered with holes! I can see nothing insect wise lurking on the plants, however they are sitting on the sill of a window that is mostly open, so its not beyond the realms that something has flown in, had lunch and flown out again.

I am on the verge of ditching them, and growing some herbs instead, however didn't want to be hasty - are these chillies really fickle, or have I simply dropped the ball with them?

I binned my Cayenne chili's, not much growth and not a single flower. I wonder if they got too warm?

I didnt grow Cayennes this year - having grown them for 2 years, they didnt ripen to red - and there was no heat/good flavour in the green ones.

I opted for Fresno this year - which have done really well - can be eaten green or red (which is a bonus just in case they don't ripen), thin skins and good size and a decent amount of heat and flavour - they grow upwards and a lot are already a good size. Will definitely do these again - seeds were not overly expensive either - 50 seeds for £1.99 no VAT ('cos its food) or delivery if you get them from Moles.

Also grew Bulgarian Carrot - which ripens to orange and look like carrots - supposed to be hotter - but so far only tiny ones have ripened - with minimum heat. Hoping once the larger ones turn orange they might be better - not tried them green yet.

      I sowed these early January.

My lemon drops must have heard me - two of them are turning yellow! Still don't have much fruit though.
