My lemon tree (grown from pip last year) is growing like crazy. But it's leaves are looking really yellow now. I had kept it in the bathroom where it got morning sunlight through the frosted glass window. I moved it to the other room as I thought it might like some more direct sun (since lemons come from hot sunny places). I also gave it some baby bio citrus plant food. But it looks more yellow than ever. I guess it would like to go outside but I don't have any outside to put it (live in a flat). Any advice for how I can make it happy looking again? Still every week I am amazed at how much it grows :)

Although i've got some lemons, i'm not an expert on them, but that looks like some sort of chlorosis, where its being prevented from taking up something it needs.

Sal will be along later to advise better.

sound funny but your lemon is under stress , it look like too much water or simple need to be repot .
usually they love sunshine but if has grown in the bathroom , direct sunlight will actually burn the leaves .
try to repot it using a mixture of soil grit and sand ,open the window and give some fresh air , it need to get bone dry before watering again , lemon dasn`t like wet roots and do not touch the roots , they really hate that.

It COULD be caused by spider mites too. Check the underside of the leaves carefully and look for TINY specks. There might also be spider web like threads across the tips of the plant. They are really hard to get rid of but you can try showering the worst of them off and come back for advice on that. Also, citrus do NOT like tap water. They hate the lime in it so use rain water.

It could be lack of iron which can also be caused by the soil draining poorly.
He grows like crazy because he is a tree but looks really in bad condition to me.

When our citrus plants looked like that it was red spider mite. Citrus are prone to rsm.

I keep mine outside in the summer on the patio table , two feeds I use is a summer Lemon feed and I have a Autumn feed I use as well.

Lemons dont like the compost wet all the time, I would water then let dry out then water , I use john innes No 2 and I add xtra grit (soil based) compost NOT multipurpose holds the water, you need free draining compost for lemons oranges etc , but they are tough plants so should bounce back with some TLC

I agree with letting the plant dry out between waterings.
I'm sure its some kind of root rot.

The actual yellowing is also likely to be magnesium deficiency.

So I'd let it get fairly dry, and the next time you water add some epsom salts.

Hello. Thanks for all your comments. From what you have said water sounds most likely to be the problem. Before I was away a bit so Tree would dry right out. Then I would give it loads of water before going away again. But recently I think it hasn't been drying out so much. And the soil is probably not the right kind either. I think I will let it dry out then see if I can change the soil. Some of the leaves have brown spots underneath. I put it back in the bathroom now.

The yellow leaf in the middle photo is the back of the leaf in the top photo - it looks worse on top of the leaf than on the back.

Sorry it look like red mite , powder will cost more then the actual plant , plus they can infect other plant as well , I would personally put the plant in the microwawe , just to not infect the house with them and lose future plants ....apparently white vinegar can help as well but never tryed.
ps do you have birds in the house?
