A quicky - Will a lemon tree survive and bear fruit if I grow it in the greenhouse?

You stand a very good chance. I havent grown one myself, but know of others who do. They tend to bring them out for the summer.

I, and many GC members, have lemons.

Pete is probably the expert but there are no real problems

As Gaz says, 'Outside in summer and into the g.house for the coldest months.' I don't put mine under glass until the end of October and bring it out mid-May

I have only a lemon and an orange in tropicals Gaz, or at least until yesterday when a neighbour gave me a kumquat her mother didn't want. it was not fully healthy so I asked Pete's advice and basically he said to treat it like other citrus. Successful? Well they fruit and are now about 10 years old so I suppose 'yes'. The fruit is not exactly up to bought standards though. Don't think they ever could be here.

Fruit in general? My rasps, blackberries, red currants, white currants, black currants, gooseberries, quinces are all fine The fig is too young to tell yet but the general idea is that round here we can't get decent fig fruit (or olive) (Like citrus).

We have a little Lemon here - as the others say, out in the summer, tucked up in the greenhouse in the winter. I don't heat my grennhouse, but if it gets too cold, then an old blanket or a bit of garden fleece wrapped around it will keep it ok. We did have a tiny Lemon off it last year - again, as the others say, its not quite hot enough for a decent crop, but if you keep it in the greenhouse all summer, who's to say?!!! (But the blossom scent it to die for....mmmmmm!! [IMG] [IMG] )

I dont know about expert John, I have been persevering for a long time though, with only limited sucsess.
Loofah, I find they tend to get lots of insect problems if kept in the greenhouse all year, mainly red spider mite and scale insect.
I know some people seem to be able to get them to fruit well in pots, but I've only really managed it when grown in the border soil of a greenhouse, plant in question was a clementine.

Good luck, I think much of it is trial and error.
Hope you manage to get some decent fruit. [IMG]
