I have been collecting slugs by hand to try and keep a bit of control. But some slugs i find have got realy intricate spots and stripes--are they leopard slugs, if so is it true that they dont attack the plants but just eat rotten things and other slugs--should i leave them be??

Identification of slugs is not always easy because of variations within the species.

If you've really got leopard slugs, aka great grey slugs, they're omnivorous. They'll eat your plants but possibly other slugs too - so the choice of to kill or not to kill is yours.
