Most household light bulbs we purchase now are garbage, they last no time at all.
I don't know how many light bulbs we go through in our household,I have seen them only lasting for weeks.:gaah:.
I have had light bulbs explode in my imitation coal fire.
I have had light bulbs blowing and the glass bulb landing on the floor with the metal holder still in the ceiling connection, which I have had to remove with insulated pliers.

I have noticed most of them are manufactured in P.R.C. China.

Whatever has happened to the good old British Safety Kite Mark.:scratch::scratch:.

Everything is made in China. It's cheap and usually rubbish, and it is this way because we as consumers accept it.

In the UK, we have a piece of legislation called the Sale of goods act. It gives us the legal right to, among other things, demand a full refund for goods that turn out to be 'not of serviceable quality'. Most people just accept it. I'm the same. But really we should exercise our rights and reject anything that turns out to be rubbish. See how quickly the retailers stop ordering rubbish from the wholesalers. See how quickly the wholesalers stop buying rubbish from the manufacturer, and see how quickly the manufacturer either improves their standard or goes bust. Prices would rise, but surely that's fair if the quality is there, and it might even give British companies a chance to compete again.

"They're" telling you to get LEDs as they are the latest in lighting technology, and have really come along in the past few years. :) They provide instant light unlike CFL bulbs and use less power. CFL is very old technology now, and as with anything, technology advances. CFL is still an option, and will still save you money over old fashioned incandescent bulbs.
LEDs however, will probably last a life time too.

To the OP, get LEDs they will last you a long time, and save you money in the long run.

I like these new LED bulbs and am gradually replacing our old Tungsten and CFLs when they blow. LEDs give off really bright clean light, cost pennies to run and are at last affordable to buy.

That's the problem with switching for me. They are still not affordable here. Hopefully that day will come soon.

I got my first LED bulb just before Christmas. It has remote control dimmer and colour change. Less than 2 months later, the green element is dead.

I've just replaced my fluorescent light strips in the Kitchen with LED Strips, [not Bulbs]] which are a bigger version of LED strip lighting. They're even better and brighter than the Fluorescent lights, are only 7 watt in consumption and will last at least 15 years.:coffee::snorky:

Ah yes the light bulb drama, we have it going on here too! We are slowly replacing our bulbs as they blow, but heck the LED's are expensive (approx £9 each) hubby tells me they are worth their weight in gold & will save us some money in the long run! :ideaIPB:

                          Righto.

About the same price here and I have a lot of lighting here.

Has anyone here had experience using LEDs for growing?
