Just dispatched 2 Lilly Beatles and last night I caught a vine weevil, this I am sure is the earliest I have ever seen them. The Lillie’s are only just starting to break ground and I’m away for the next 2 weeks, pretty sure my pots will de devastated again this year.

anyone else seen them yet this year?

I've got a couple of crown imperials that are badly chewed, some of it could be slugs but I was wondering if it could be Lilly beetle.
      Not seen any though.

I saw two lily beetles a few years ago but that's all.
As for Vine weevils that's a different thing - I even found one crawling across the keyboard of my laptop a few nights ago.

I repotted some of my strawberries yesterday, and the roots were FULL of vine Weevil grubs. I need to give all my pots a good soaking with nematodes as soon as night time temps stay above 5 degrees :frown:

Too early here, but the lily beetle is certainly becoming more common. Not cold enough over winter to see them off, I presume.

I've got a number of hostas in pots and want to protect them from vine weevils. Any packaging I've seen for nematodes says it treats x sq yards/metres. How do you judge how much to apply to pots. I don't want to spend money I don't need to but also don't want to apply too little.

Only this afternoon I had a cheeky Vine weevil crawling on my steps of my conservatory on his way out to the garden up to no good I think and it's only 12th April , very early here in SE Wales so I dropped him into the nearest bucket of rainwater !

I mentioned on another thread that I'd found a product called Grazers G4 Formula, which is meant to deter lily beetles. I got it and applied earlier this week - you do it weekly, from early on in the season. I'll see how it goes and report back if it's working - or not!
Our lilies aren't too far out of the ground, but it was the fritillaries that were getting annihilated last year, so I thought it was worth it to try and save those.

Funny KT53 they never bother my Hostas but instead decimate my climing rose (typically only after I treat the black spot, I swear that rose hates me). Can’t grow strawberries they never last the season and nematodes are so expensive here I tend to just work around with plants they ignore.
