20160720_190854.jpg Hello all. I'm new to Gardening so apologies for the basic questions! I've planted a lily which is just flowering. Do I deadhead, will it come back next year and will it spread (or do I plant more)?
Also seeing some slight spots on leaves which I don't think are bugs. Could this be botrytis and how do I treat? Many thanks for any advice

    Hi Mrs C ,

Welcome to the wonderful world of gardening :)

    As to Lilies......

Deadheading..... Just take each flower off as it dies by breaking/cutting the little stem which joins it to the main thick stem. Don't break off the main stem. Leave this and all the leaves on to die back naturally, as these feed the bulb for next year. You'll find these pull off easily when they've died back naturally ( probably around October ).

They should come back bigger and better next year and will gradually over a couple of years form a nice clump.

The one thing I'd like to know is how deep you planted them. It looks like you've planted them from pots ? If so they should have been planted with around 2/3" of the stem buried.

I can't really help you with "spots on leaves ", a photo might help.
Botrytis is a grey fluffy mould, not spots.

Thank you Anthony for your response! That's great thanks. Re planting, yes I bought in a pot from the garden centre. So next time I need to plant deeper? I'll get a photo of the leaves

    Thanks again :-)

Picture of the leaves attached. They look reasonably healthy apart from the spots! I can't see any bugs. Many thanks 20160721_083614.jpg
