Sorry could you give a bit more or a description of the flower, and the leaf.

Unusual for a lily to have just one flower, usually they have a cluster of flowers at the top of the stem - and 4 inches sounds very low.

they look like tiger lilies to me (and they give me hay fever!!)
    But I haven't a clue why they're so short - unless there's a dwarf cultivar I haven't come across???

nicsdad I have tried those in the past and they don't come back as strong as when you brought them back from the garden centre. Especially grown like that in pots. Please don't take offence but the compost they are growing in doesn't look the best. :(

I have some very similar but they come just a bit taller, probably because they're crowded together in the pot. I have various orange shades and some bright red. Unfortunately I don't know what they are either, I inherited them from my late Auntie. The birds really go for these, maybe the colour.
They are greatly in need of repotting since they came from my aunt's garden 2 years ago.

I though tiger lillies were turks head type?

Looks a bit like "orange pixie" to me.
