Hi ive noticed on a couple of my plants in the greenhouse that there are tiny, little flies (ive only noticed 3 or 4) walking on the top of the soil. They are tiny little dark coloured things and they have wings. Any ideas what they are and what i need to do to get rid of them
    Any advice appreciated

    Hello Averil

It sounds like fungus gnat to me. I have them too at the moment. They tend to be associated with overwatering or too much moisture (which I think I remember on another thread of yours?). Have a google to check for sure and solutions.... If it is, what I did for mine which seemed to help was to top up pots (it happened on my chilli and pepper plants) with a little layer of nice dry potting compost - seemed to do the trick.

    Good luck with yours.

I have them in some of my epotted houseplants I put it down to eggs in the cheap compost from wilkos:th scifD36: I don't think over watering on my end as I'm notoriously bad for not watering things for weeks on end and then getting a brainwave that I need to water

Water the trays at the bottom as they will breed in the wet layer at the top of the pot.

They used to be part of the diet at the mushroom farm, if you were lucky you'd only have 20 of them in each mouth of tea.

We created the perfect condition for them in the mushroom tunnels. 98% Humidity, 35c.

They loved it & made millions of babies
