Walked the length of the lough in the middle of it this afternoon and visited an island which is normally not accessible.

People walking, skating on the lake..

Looks like some good thick ice kindredspirit.

Here in Scotland the was a bonspiel, a great curling match, planned for the Lake of Menteith (the only 'lake' in Scotland), for Tuesday next but Health & Safety have stuck their oar in and said 'no'. Rather a shame as the last time the ice was thick enough for a bonspiel was 30 years ago.

BTW - Are those reconstructions of iron age type houses in one of the photos - looks likes one has a round thatched roof and the other a longer roof?

Well spotted Dave. You are absolutely correct.

All around the lake is full of Iron Age settlements, castles, caves, crannogs etc, etc. A beautiful place at any time of year.

Hello, nice photos. But they make me cold! Here in the U.S. we are having one of the coldest winters in 25 years. Global warming?? Have a good day.

Great pics, kindredspirit! :gnthb: Not only the frozen lough to walk and skate on, but the beautiful scenery to be enjoyed as well.

It is cold over here and the lakes frozen but not enough so that the Fire Department has given their OK to go on them. At least not in our town. And we don't have the scenery either. Lucky you to live in such a beautiful part of the country.

    Thanks for sharing.

I too spotted some of the buildings in the first picture and was going to ask about them, how neat.
