Loganberry advice, please.

Last month I bought a loganberry bush. Healthy looking plant, some blossom and at a marked down price (bonus!).

Planted it in a "container", in a sunny spot and have kept it watered but not pampered.

Today, I noticed a ripening berry and also a couple of very long (larger than the rest of the plant) stems. They have grown extremely quickly and I have added a bamboo support and tied them up.

Question: Have I done the right thing? Or, should I be cutting those stems out?

Are the ones that will fruit next year so leave alone , the old stems are the ones that you will be cutting out in l;ate Autumn and tieing the new shoots ready for next year and by tieing them in the winter winds etc will stop any damage occurring
