Good afternoon all. You probably read that I visited London this week for four days. As always I had a great time, and it was mostly sunny and not too cold. Where to start. My hotel was literally 100m from Paddington station. On the first day I strolled thru Spitalfield market and on and around Oxford street. Schedule on the second day was packed, and I was on my feet more than 9 hours. I visited Natural History museum, Victoria&Albert museum, Hyde park, Kensington gardens and Harrods. The new Evolution garden in front of NH museum are simply beautiful. Garden is packed wit all kinds of ferns, and there is so many Dicksonia ferns.

Third day I was on the both sides of Thames. Main goal was Borough market, but I visited St. Paul cathedral, then I found building where was Poirot filmed (building and park are in very sad condition), then walk around Globe theater and few more things.

Fourth and final day was dedicated to St. Pancras and King's Cross, and to buy presents for my neighbor and parents. St Pancras is really fantastic and beautiful building, with lot of different stores, and what I liked the most, live piano music. It was just perfect.

On the end, in all parks in London, spring bulbs are in flower, especially daffodils.

And about presents and food. I had a proper British pub food, stake and kidney pie, chips, cider, gravy and of course fish and chips. Pickled egg was standing on the shelve, but honesty it doesn't sound very tasty. I bought some tea for my, and sweets for presents. My parents got various tea biscuits from Fortnum&Mason.

Just imagine the face of Custom officer in Zagreb when I opened my luggage.

                  Thank you @Ante1

Just some information for you about St Pancras.

As one of my hobbies I write quizzes and I ran an Obscure Quiz here on GC some years ago. St Pancras was the answer to one of the questions.

Question 83 was:- The 300 bedroom Midland Grand Hotel opened in London on the 5th May 1873. The completed building had used 60 million bricks and 9,000 tons of ironwork including polished columns of fourteen different British granites and limestone. The hotel closed in 1935 and became an office. It survived the bombings of World War II and became a listed building in the 1960’s but was closed down in the 1980’s after failing its Fire Certificate. It has been restored by English Heritage and its owners, and is open to the public and also has guided tours. What is now the name of the building and what other famous building is it the front part of?

Answer:- St Pancras Chambers and St Pancras Station

The London skyline really has changed. :yikes: What’s with all these slanty, weirdly shaped buildings? Are straight walls out of fashion?

You are right, @Ante1, Poirot’s art deco block does look a tad tatty.

One of the best views of the skyline is from the Overground line up by Denmark Hill.

Absolutely fantastic pictures @Ante1 , so clear and well taken. I can just imagine Poirot coming out of those flats, what a shame they are in need of maintenance. I would have imagined the owners would have kept them in tip top condition with them being a well known location on TV. Loving the food pictures, could just eat those fish and chips. As someone else has said, you have seen more of London than I have and we have been here decades.:ouch1:

I was thinking that. A series of kitchen paraphernalia, gherkins, toasters and cheese graters! What happened to aesthetics? I liked the view from Greenwich Park when I lived in south east London nearly 20 years ago. I probably wouldn’t recognise it now.

Your photos are great @Ante1 :blue thumb:.

Swimming pool and roof terrace, I see. I’ll bet the annual maintenance fee is humongous. :hate-shocked:

I lived in a studio flat in an art deco block. Those curved windows are very prone to drafts and, of course, double glazing is a non-starter.
