Came across this at 7 this morning in the park, not a good pic as I had the wrong camera with me and I didn't want to get too close.

Amazing! at first glance it looks like a prehistoric monster coming down out of the tree:D What will happen to it? Do hive bees always get picked up, or can they find and make their own?

What a brilliant photo - I would definitely not have gone any closer although we have friends who collect swarms and the procedure is amazing.

It was fairly cool at the time and I asumed(rightly or wrongly) that that would keep them a bit docile, there was just a few odd bees flying around.
It must have been there all night I guess.

As to what happened to it, I dont know.

It was in the park where the Radio One show is taking place this weekend, so there would have been loads of people in there soon after I took the picture.

    Oh, fantastic shot, Pete!

At first, I was wondering what kind of animal it was crawling down the tree! I rather thought a long-necked lizard or something that escaped from Jurassic Park!

I was under the impression that the swarm collected around a new Queen, if thats true what are these few doing, I cant think there is a Queen at the centre.
Maybe the majority were collected with the Queen, these maybe just the ones that were left behind, and will probably die.
    Unless anyone knows better?
