    Or as near as possible. My first rose project... :yho:

    Needs to have as many of the following attributes as possible, in order of importance:

    * Available in UK
    * A climber, to trail along mini trellis on top of fence - 1 meter up, 1 meter along each way.
    * A classic, deep red English valentine rose (Google the classic red 'Mr Lincoln' for desired appearance).
    * Small, tight country cottage size flowers. Anything oversized or overblooming is not the ticket in an English garden! Understated is the keyword ; )
    * An overpowering classic rose pong.
    * A tollerant plant considered easy to look after.
    * A popular rose with history that can be Googled for help.

    Not too much to ask for, lol!

    You want everything!

    Check out 'Surpassing Beauty'... available from Peter Beales.... a fabulous rose... that comes with a story.

    The famous old rose specialist, Sir Humphrey Brooke, of the Lime Kiln Rosarium in Suffolk ( alas now gone... both Sir Humph' and the rosarium!) discovered it growing against the wall of Woolverston chruch, near Ipswich... and it still was there about 10 years ago and hopefully still is.. it's obviously an old "lost" variety.

    It has fairly large flowers...... but..... the scent.... has to be smelt to be believed... as Sir humphrey once said... "if you could put that scent in a bottle... every tart in Paris would wear it!"

    It's one of my perfect roses... maybe yours too!
