I'm looking to buy a loupe (small hand held magnifying glass) and i just want to know what the best magnification is for looking at plants, like flower structures and stuff? as i have seen a 30x21mm one for under £3.00 on ebay.

    thanks in advance:thumb:

I've an 8x loupe (the hold in your eye type, which I originally used for lapidary work) it's pretty good for close-up viewing of just about anything small and leaves both hands free to handle the object. A 10 0r 8 times magnification will be about all you'll need unless you want to get into cellular structures of plants.

well I'm getting more interested in plant identification and some plants especially orchids can look very similar to each other unless you can look at the flower structure :) I've ordered the loupe so i will post back if its any good! £2.97 still sounds too good to be true to me...

:) They are very handy KL if you want real detail in close up... Mind you, you have to put it right by your eye & then close to the plant KL..! So you very often block out the light..!!!!:D Very good for seeing whether you have spider mites or not I agree Pete, as I can't see them anymore either...!:D
