My Pond seems to be losing rather a lot of water each day, the size of the pond is approx 10ft X 8ft and the water is going down at least 1inch a day, possible more.

I would expect to lose some through evaporation on hot days.

I have a lot of plants in there, would they also take a lot of water up?

The loss of water, seemed to start as the plants started growing, could it be that I have too many plants in there.

Seems like a lot of water going to be purely from evaporation?

water loss can be hard / take a while to find.

i am wondering do any particular plants have gravel in the bottom, or that may have "stuck" to the pot causing a puncture.

Have you knocked anything, if you have a waterfall, fountain, feature or filter you may have knocked a pipe.

easiest way is to leave it and see when it stops falling, where it stops is where the hole is. (assuming none of the above apply)

Hi Maurice. If you have a waterfall, I think that this is the first place you should check. I had nothing but trouble with mine. The one I had was made using liner, and always seemed to re-settle following a long period of rain causing loss of water. What water-garden says is also good advice. Cheers...freddy.

I suppose there is a possibility there is a puncture but I seem to think this happenened about this time last year that is why I thought it may be the plants taking up water.

I think I will have to take a closer look in a couple of weeks time as we open for the NGS next week so I don't want to mess things up at the moment, will just have to hope we get some rain or use the Tap water.
Thanks for replying to both who replied to my qestion.

Sorry Freddy but I have just seen your reply, I stopped my waterful to see if that was the problem, I do think that after a lot of rain the ground under and surrounding the pond does push the water higher and then as the ground drys out the water level does drop.--- Maurice

oops just noticed the spelling mistakes in my last post.
