I thought I could see there was a lot of shooting stars through my scope tonight........but then it is Bonfire Night, I guess.:dunno:
It's like WWIII out there and probably the most fireworks displays we had around here for years:snorky:

I live on the edge of town whith fields only a hundred yards away but even so the local area has gone mad with fireworks. The Observatory, with the Shutter open, funnels all the sound into the inside so I think I might need ear defenders:heehee: I might wear a helmet just in case a falling rocket comes down through the shutter!:hate-shocked::heehee:

We seem to have a lot of those really interesting ones.
They go, bang, ..bang..bang..bang...bang.....bang....bang.....bang etc.and finish BANG.
            Really worth the £20 each.

There must be thousands of pounds literally going up in smoke around us tonight - I don't know how folks can afford it?

There's a few fireworks around here but living out in the 'wilds' for the time being we're missing the worst. :)

When I was a kid the Bonfire was in the middle of the street, which was untarmaced, and was made from old furniture, logs, timber, anything that people didn't want was put on the Bonfire. It was sometimes so big that it would crack the glass windows of the Houses either side of it. We had a few rockets but, in those days, it was mostly Bangers of varying and explosive, Ripraps [like Chinese Crackers] etc. My Mum and her neighbour used to stand together in front of our house to watch what was going on and my brother and sisters used to drop Ripraps from the front bedroom window behind them:heehee: One of my sisters and her friend used to get a bundle of bangers held together with elastic bands, light them and throw them through the front doors of our local, long suffering, but good, Police Station....and then run off!!!:runforhills::runforhills: To look at pics of her then and now you would think that was the last thing she would have done.:snorky:

I remember the old catherine wheels that wouldn't stay nailed to a post. Once lit they'd fly off and whizz around the floor so we'd all run off screaming :snorky:

The bonfire used to be constructed on a piece of waste ground. Any old furniture, wood etc would be piled up around the trunk of a tree so when it was set fire to, the tree would go up in smoke as well. No one seemed to care about trees in those days.

The economy must be in a good way as the local neighbourhood firework count is way higher and more extravagant than its ever been.

This may be a more accurate way of measuring the British economy instead of relying on the Bank of England forecasts which always turn out to be wrong. ;)
