    "A spectacular lunar eclipse will see the Moon glow burnt orange this afternoon - but only if the weather holds.    A MeteoGroup forecaster has predicted adverse conditions, meaning there will be a 50 per cent chance of seeing a full eclipse from the Shetland Islands.
    Between 2.06pm and 2.58pm the northernmost tip of the UK may be able to witness the Sun, Earth and Moon falling almost exactly in line, giving the moon an orange hue.

    Dr Robert Massey, of the Royal Astronomical Society (RAS), said: 'Theoretically the best place in the UK to see the eclipse is in the Shetland Islands but that depends on whether they have good weather and a clear horizon, which can be another stumbling block.
    'It will then be just possible to see it, but that is about as good as it gets. It will literally just be for one or two minutes but even that is a bit uncertain because it all depends on the time the Moon rises, which is in itself a bit unpredictable."

      Ziggy, when you did that last time, there was one close to where my daughter lives in Canada..........so the answers no! :heehee:

      I was looking at the moon two nights ago and it was surrounded by coloured rings, rainbow colours. :scratch:

          I'll keep my runes close to my chest this time then Sheal:heehee:

          That'll be frost crystals in the upper atmosphere causing refraction of the reflected light then.

            That explains a lot.

            Went out for a walk this afternoon, just before sunset. There was the strangest phenomenon, which I just put down to the clouds.

            We had what appeared to be a sunset, except in the wrong place. I knew it was the moon, and it was slightly obscured by clouds, and it just looked for all the world like sunset. So much so that my wife, who is lovely but not blessed with a great sense of direction, thought it was the sun setting.
